Let me tell you, the writing is sharp, witty, and full of depth. This is cinema at its finest.

The film begins in 1949, two years since a communist government came to power and the country was provisionally renamed _Rzeczpospolita ludowa_ [Polish People's Republic]. Człowiek z nadziei_), and Piotr Borkowski (_Lek wysokosci_), and directed by Pawlikowski, who loosely based the story on events in his parents' lives, to whom the film is also dedicated, the plot of Zimna wojna is simplicity itself.

Here's the thing: the performances are absolutely stellar across the board. For a 2018 release, this is noteworthy.

The film that made me fall in love with cinema. Love doesn’t always survive history. Sometimes, it is history.
